Sick Building Syndrome (SBS)

The Sick Building Syndrome (SBS – Sick Building Syndrome) is a situation that is increasingly encountered, caused by the tendency to build increasingly “hermetic” buildings to limit the
energy consumption for heating and cooling. If this approach actually limits consumption, reducing the external air accumulates chemical and biological pollutants generated
in the internal environment, since the rate of air renewal is insufficient. This problem is also aggravated by the propensity of people to live more and more within the
houses.
This lack of air exchange results in poor air quality, of which multiple factors are responsible, including bacteria, fungi, mold, and chemicals as well as contaminants generated by people’s metabolic functions. Even VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are often the cause of this syndrome, released
from furniture paints or floors for example.

As the data of the World Health Organization (WHO) confirms, the air we breathe in the home and in the workplace can be up to 5 times more polluted than the air outdoors. Headache, eye irritation, nose and throat, dry cough, dehydrated skin, dizziness or nausea, fatigue: these are the symptoms that, according to official data from the World Organization of
Health care, affecting 20% of the western population due to the polluting factors present in the homes.
How to try to solve this problem?
Certainly starting from a correct and conscious choice of building materials that must be environmentally friendly and naturally breathable and trying to ventilate environments as much as possible.

We at Check Up have also studied ItAir: an air purifier and sanitizer that exploits the natural filtering action of the plant’s root system to break down VOCs, organic compounds
birds that are harmful to human health.
Unlike traditional purifiers, ItAir uses plants to remove pollutants from indoor air. According to laboratory tests Itair manages to filter the air from
